The Impact of Leaving the EU

Event Date

The transition period for the UK leaving the European Union (EU) has now ended.

The Scottish Government wants to do all that is possible to mitigate any impacts of leaving the EU, and ensure that people can maximise any opportunities, so we are reaching out to stakeholders, including the third sector, to find out how the UK leaving the EU is impacting on charities, social enterprises and community groups, and the people/organisations that the sector supports.

The Exit Deal was finalised during the winter and whilst we have been living under COVID-19 restrictions. This means that the sector may not yet have had time or space to truly consider the economic and other effects of exiting the EU. The wider health, social and economic impacts of COVID will have added to existing disadvantage and to the challenges facing groups with protected characteristics and disadvantaged communities. So the Scottish Government is keen to listen to the overall effects of all these factors.

The roundtable will have input from officials from the Division of Organisational Readiness and will ask participants to consider questions such as:

• What are the main issues or opportunities from EU Exit now, or in in the next year, for the people that you support?

• What are the main issues or opportunities arising from EU Exit for your organisation right now, or that you expect in the next year?

• Have you got suggestions of support that could be put in place to mitigate any negative impacts, or to help people realise new opportunities?
