Scottish Government Engagement: Your Views - Strengthening Scottish Charity Law

COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of a strong charity sector in Scotland and good governance has been crucial in steering charities through these challenging times. The legal environment within which Scotland’s 25,000 charities operate is critical to this, which is why the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government for 20-21 included a commitment to re‑start its engagement on changes to charity law.

As part of its engagement with the charity sector, the Scottish Government is currently inviting people working in/with the charity sector and anyone with an interest in charity law to help develop and refine the proposals previously consulted on in 2019. Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire (VASLan) will be hosting an online engagement event 2-4pm, Tuesday 26th January 2021 that will allow participants to discuss, share and have their views on the proposals fed back to the Scottish Government. The proposals centre on:

  • enhancing transparency and accountability in Scottish charities
  • increased regulatory powers for OSCR.
