Challenge Poverty Week 2016, Day 5: Partnership

On Day 5 of Challenge Poverty Week, we look at how partnership can help tackle the causes and effects of poverty. This has been part of an awareness raising campaign in partnership with the Poverty Alliance, South Lanarkshire Council, NHS Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire Carers Network, Healthy n Happy, Community Links and the Department of Work and Pensions.

Challenge Poverty Week 2016, Day 1: Is Poverty Inevitable?

Sunday marked the start of Challenge Poverty Week. Activities and events will be taking place all over Scotland to raise awareness and promote action to address poverty and its impact. In South Lanarkshire we will be undertaking an awareness campaign, based on materials developed by the Poverty Awareness and Tackling Stigma Working Group which is made up of representatives by VASLan and partners, including South Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire.

Volunteering opportunity: Classrooms for Malawi, Rutherglen

Classrooms for Malawi is a charity working in Scotland and Malawi with the sole purpose of improving and advancing education in poverty-stricken Malawi, a country where there is a deficit of over 70,000 classrooms. Working hand-in-hand with local communities in Malawi and groups here in the UK, the charity creates safe and fit for purpose classrooms for the country’s children.

They are currently looking for volunteers to help with office work in Rutherglen:
