Lanarkshire Epilepsy

Lanarkshire Epilepsy are a small charity based in Lanarkshire. There are around 4500 people living in this area with epilepsy, when you take into account family members and friends there are around 30,000 people directly affected by epilepsy.

Lanarkshire Epilepsy’s mission statement “Living Positively With Epilepsy” emphasises the incredible work that they are doing for those living with the condition as well as their carers.

Lanarkshire Epilepsy works with individuals who have epilepsy to help build their confidence, come to terms with and understand their condition through family walks, group walks, coffee morning, and meetings (currently suspended or vitual due to COVID-19).

Counselling is also available through, referral not only for those living with epilepsy but for their family and friends too. Witnessing a seizure can be extremely terrifying and often people are unsure what to do, this led to Lanarkshire Epilepsy offering Epilepsy First Aid.

Last year, the team took part in the virtual Kiltwalk and raised almost £6000! This helps to ensure Lanarkshire Epilepsy can continue doing what they do and helping people to achieve their goals!

“I myself used to consider myself to be ‘an epileptic’ I now do not. I have epilepsy, it's a condition I get on with my life. I am currently training for a timed 18 mile hike in the lake district in May, then the Manchester Marathon in October!”
