The 48th Glasgow Scout Group

48th Scout Group

The 48th Glasgow Scout Group has been serving it’s community for 74 years, soon to be 75 years this year. They provide a service of planned activities and programmes that allow young people aged 6-18 years old – of any background, gender, religion, or sexuality – traverse and develop skills that will benefit them later in life. Be Prepared is the scout motto and as cheesy as it sounds they try our best to that. Whether it’s preparing them for the current adventure which could be kayaking or real life bingo, to the future adventures that you haven’t even thought of yet.

At the 48th, they believe everyone deserves a voice, and with the scout led style scouting is now providing, they believe, that more young people are finding a place in scouts as they are choosing activities they enjoy.

Over the past year the young people at the 48th have battled boredom with learning house skills, becoming tik tok stars, scientist, journalist, politicians so many more incredible activities along the way. They also learned about the world as a group, the beavers learned about the animal kingdom, cubs learned about religion, scouts and explorers discovered the true meaning of equality and spoke with leaders about the BLM movement and where scouts stand amongst it all. At the start of 2020 they thought that they were going to have a better year than ever before, with wonderful ideas both at the hall and outside of it but instead they struggled, adapted and found what it really means to have a scouting spirit.

“The 48th is one big dysfunctional family, that always seems to get through the hard times giving us great strength and memories in the process” – Ewan Cameron – Scout and Explorer Leader
