The Nurture Educational and Multicultural Society

The Nurture Educational and Multicultural Society (Nurture Multicultural Centre), based in Cambuslang, have been working for the integration and the culture of living together in peace of both the Scottish Community, Asylum seeker and Refugee communities in Scotland, for 16 years. They aim to develop knowledgeable and caring communities who help to create a better and more peaceful society through intercultural understanding and respect.

Despite many services having to shut down due to the outbreak of COVID-19 The Nurture have continued to provide support to their community. Volunteers delivered shopping/prescriptions to those who were shielding/isolating to help keep spirits high.

They were aware of how lockdown may be affecting mental health particularly refugees who were experiencing hardship whilst adjusting to life in Scotland and delivered seminars and sessions about mental health, motivation, and loneliness.

The Nurture were keen to make sure they were still able to celebrate Interfaith week and celebrated online in November 2020. They organised an interfaith prayer event with representatives of many different religions attending, each representative bringing their own prayer, this was followed with prayers for humanity, NHS staff and the world.

Discussions took place surrounding how useful prayer is to mental health in these difficult times. the importance of Interfaith Dialogue and tolerance.
