Stonehouse Male Voice Choir

Stonehouse Male Voice Choir

Stonehouse Male Voice Choir has been ongoing since 1936 when a few local builders got together to sing in their lunch break.

They now have around 40 members aged 12 and over, although the majority are over 60.

Their musical director, Hugh Grant, and accompanist, Lynsey Hamilton, try to cater for all tastes with classical music, church music, music from the shows, and light popular music. So there is something for everyone!

The choir usually practice weekly in Stonehouse Paterson UF Church, although for the last year they have been continuing to meet online.

In normal circumstance they would perform around 10 concerts a year although sadly these are all postponed for now. Hopefully it won't be too long until we can see them perform again!

Over the years the choir has recorded 5 CDs and 1 DVD. These are available for people to buy or you can listen to their music online using your smart speaker or you can find them on YouTube.

During lockdown, the choir organised comfort bags for all their members. These were full of activities to keep everyone occupied and to keep their minds ticking over. The comfort bags included tea bags, puzzle books, CDs, games etc.

They were also involved in the 12 Days of Nature project with Get Outdoors Lanarkshire by singing the 12 Days of Nature!

"The choir is like a second family where I have made some great friends and enjoy great camaraderie"
