Early Years

GIRFEC

girfec_logo_long.gifGetting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) is a national approach covering all agencies working with children and young people, that has the stated aim of making Scotland the best place in the world to grow up in. It supports children, young people and their parents to work in partnership with services that can help them.

The overarching aim is to have different agencies collaborating and communicating effectively to ensure that if a child or young person’s wellbeing is being negatively impacted, then this is reported at an early stage and appropriate action can be taken.

The Scottish Government website offers a valuable summary of the concepts behind GIRFEC and the tools practitioners can use in line with the GIRFEC approach.

With such a large section of the third sector working with children and young people, it is important that organisations are fully aware of what the GIRFEC approach is and how it may affect the way they work. VASLan is playing an important role in this awareness - holding information sessions, by request, for groups who require help getting acquainted with the GIRFEC’s language, tools and concepts.

If you would like to know more about GIRFEC and its practical impact on your organisation, please contact Ann Sangster on 01698 300390 or email ann.sangster@vaslan.org.uk.
