Safeguarding People with Vulnerable Condition during COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented. It is important for us to keep an eye on elderly and vulnerable friends, families, neighbours, and relatives, who may be ill and need extra care.

Earlier in the pandemic, we experienced unprecedented levels of support by members of local communities and Voluntary groups working collectively to deliver essential supports for vulnerable residents and supporting vulnerable groups. With increasing case numbers nationwide, these support services would be of great benefit to our local communities as we enter 2022.

We are encouraged to make contact safely with family, friends, or neighbours who may require support during this difficult time. This includes helping transport essential goods such as food to people who cannot leave their homes, carrying out welfare checks where there was a concern expressed about the wellbeing of someone, and offering telephone befriending to those who are isolated. The range of support would cover, but not be limited to:

  • A chat and face-to-face welfare checks
  • Prescription collection and delivery
  • Support with shopping
  • Food packs delivery

Should you need additional support or need more information to re-mobilise the service, please get in touch with VASLan.

We believe that delivering this support can have a positive effect on someone vulnerable. With the help from the community across South Lanarkshire, we would like to ensure that no one feels alone. Your support and assistance can help to keep people safe and well at home.
