Ways of Working Review

Over recent months Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire (VASLan) has undertaken a full and detailed ‘Ways of Working’ review of its operations our ‘programme of change’. This takes account of the Scottish Government review of Third Sector Interfaces (TSIs).  It also considered key scenarios for the future operation of VASLan as South Lanarkshire’s TSI. The objective of the review is to create a financially sustainable, resilient and well governed organisation capable of responding effectively to strategic and partners priorities.

What does this mean for our partners?  The ‘Ways of Working’ review is designed to:

  • deliver improvements to  the ways we work and deliver our services ,
  • bring about more responsive systems in support of Third Sector and partnership priorities,
  • further, will establish VASLan’s role as a strategic partner within the community planning process whilst supporting and advocating for South Lanarkshire’s Third Sector.

The outcomes of the review enables VASLan to be recognised in local communities as a key agent of change.  It will ensure VASLan plays a vital role in the process of democratic renewal:

  • strengthening local decision making and governance,
  • supporting communities to act on their priorities,
  • supporting and generating new ideas for positive change.

The review process has recommended a number of structural and operational changes.   A new structure has been introduced as of the 1st October 2018.  The main changes include the introduction of an Operations and Strategic Management post and an Administration Services Manager post. These two posts together with the Chief Executive’s post replace the previous management structure which had 6 posts. There are also changes to staffing structures and methods of service delivery, including significant improvement to our ‘Engage, Promote, Involve’ (EPI) database.

These changes will become fully operational later this year.

Key managerial changes.

  • Charlie Duffin:         Operations and Strategic Manager
  • Letitia Gallacher:      Administration Services Manager

To ensure we have a robust, efficient and effective delivery structure with the necessary capabilities, processes, systems and behaviours have been at the heart of the ‘Ways of Working’ review. The changes made reaffirm our commitment to improve VASLan’s impact and outcomes, effectiveness and efficiency across all our support and delivery functions.  In this way we will ensure VASLan is a cost-effective and influential organisation – a key Community Planning Partner.
