Throughout the last 10 months there has been unprecedented levels of support by members of the community and Third Sector/Voluntary groups working collectively alongside the Statutory Agencies to ensure support for the wider community. The scale of engagement over this extended period has been phenomenal. We would like to again take the opportunity to thank you for this.

As we yet again face additional restrictions, we would like to reassure you that both Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire (VASLan) and South Lanarkshire Council remain committed to supporting and nurturing community networks and the efforts to protect the communities of South Lanarkshire. We are keen to hear from any local group who feel they may need support or to discuss volunteering or volunteering opportunities, you can contact us through the SLC Community Engagement Team at  communities@southlanarkshire.gov.uk or  VASLan at office@vaslan.org.uk.

One question we have already been asked is regarding letters of authorisation for volunteers.  While we have been assured that Police Scotland will not be asking for these, we understand there are other reasons for carrying them at present.  If you previously had a letter of authorisation this is still live in the present circumstances and we can arrange for new volunteers to be issued with these if desired or to resend existing ones if they have been mislaid.

We would like to take the opportunity to remind you that two key portals are still active. the South Lanarkshire Council wellbeing line on 0303 123 1009 provides advice and support for community members who are self-isolating or vulnerable and whose usual support network is not available.  VASLan’s Volunteering registration portal is for those who would like to offer their help in their community or for those organisation who need Volunteers, this can be accessed at Volunteering | VASLan COVId 19 or on 01698 300390
