Gordon Bennie

Chief Executive Officer

Gordon has been the CEO of VASLan since December 2010.  He is the Voluntary Sector representative at the South Lanarkshire Community Planning Partnership; Reshaping Care for Older People; and Early Years Collaborative. He was previously a Civil Servant for the Department of Employment, before joining the voluntary sector in 1997. He has a wealth of experience in supporting and working in the sector.

Heather Petrie

Team Leader – Future & Specialist Delivery

As Team Leader in the Future and Specialist Delivery Team, and part of VASLan’s Management Team, Heather oversees work covering:  Policy, training development, quality, corporate community investment, media and marketing, volunteering development and the Saltire and Volunteer Friendly Awards, and oversees third sector involvement linkages to CPP through the Third Sector Forum; Early Years and Health and Social Care Integration and is the third sector representative for South Lanarkshire on the Lanarkshire Data Sharing Partnership.  She is also Team Leader of VASLan’s Administration and Finance teams. She has over twenty years’ managerial experience in the voluntary, public and private sector.

Jenny Gemmell

Team Leader – Core & Growth Development & Mentoring

As Team Leader for the Core and Growth Development and Mentoring Team, Jenny oversees the Core and Growth Development Team’s work covering third sector capacity building, social enterprise development, volunteering development and funding advice providing support direct to organisations and community groups across South Lanarkshire. She also oversees the delivery of mentoring support to young people through dedicated projects including the Chance to Change project for young offenders. Jenny has previously worked in various youth work and community development roles in both the public and third sector and has also volunteered in various roles. She has volunteered for Hamilton Information Project for Youth for over 20 years and is currently a Charity Trustee and secretary of the management committee.

 

 

Audrey Canning

Senior Finance/HR Officer

Audrey works alongside Joyce Pye and deals with financial and HR administration. She is responsible for the SAGE Accounting System and all financial records and payments within VASLan, which also includes all HR documentation, keeping staff records, holidays etc. Audrey is additionally responsible for petty cash for projects  and invoicing for room hire etc.  She has over 20 years' administration experience and has worked in the voluntary sector for over 13 years.

Charlie Duffin

Early Years Collaborative Strategic Officer

As Early Years Collaborative Strategic Officer, Charlie oversees the development of a range of voluntary sector networks, Charlie also represents VASLan on a number of strategic planning groups within South Lanarkshire. A key element of his role is to focus on the Early Years Collaborative agenda, the world's first national multi-agency quality improvement programme. Charlie has almost 30 years’ experience of quality and process improvement, project and operational management in the private and voluntary sectors.

Amy McDonald

Marketing and Communication Officer

Amy is responsible for the running of our social media accounts as well as contributing to the communications and marketing plan of the organisation.  She also writes our press releases, keeps our website updated and deals with all media enquiries.  Amy joined VASLan in January 2017 previously working in communications and stakeholder management with the Scottish Government and gaining a degree in Multimedia Journalism. 

Angus Lindsay

Operations Support Officer

Angus’s areas of expertise are in IT support and management, web design and project management. He has worked as an IT professional and project manager for several major companies and brings this extensive knowledge to the South Lanarkshire voluntary sector.

Ann Sangster

Integrated Children’s Services Development Officer

Ann’s role focuses particularly upon work within the “early years”, highlighting the advantages of early intervention and preventative-spend in the health, social work and education spheres. She is currently heavily involved in the implementation of Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) in South Lanarkshire and in the Early Years Collaborative, encouraging voluntary organisations working with children and families to use Improvement Science methodology. She has a BA in Social Sciences and has been involved in the voluntary sector for almost 20 years.

Caitlin Barnes

Caitlin works as an Administration Officer supporting all administrative functions of VASLan including Employability projects, reception, room bookings and Saltire Awards admin. Caitlin joined VASLan as a Community Jobs Scotland placement in September 2013 supporting staff in our Cambuslang office. She moved to our Hamilton office in April 2014 to provide maternity cover support to the Employability projects and has been training on all aspects of administrative functions of VASLan. She has gained a Modern Apprenticeship Level 3 in Business Administration.

Chloe Frame

Trainee Administration Assistant

Chloe joined VASLan in February 2015 on a 9 month Community Jobs Scotland post. She has been undergone training in all aspects of the administrative functions of VASLan, taking on reception and room booking support duties as well as general admin support to all staff and projects. She has achieved a Modern Apprenticeship Level 2 and Level 3 in Business Administration.

David Bett

Administration Officer

David joined VASLan in April 2012 on a 6 month Community Jobs Scotland post and was involved in collecting and co-ordinating information about all voluntary organisations and groups within South Lanarkshire and adding them to our online Infobase database. Since then, David has now become a valuable member of our administration team and been involved in various roles now being one of our Administration Officers, mainly providing support to individuals looking to volunteer and to organisations looking for volunteers. David is also involved within the Third Sector Forums, arranging venues and co-ordinating the administration in the background as well as being involved at our reception desk providing room bookings support.

Debbie Williams

Mentoring Project Officer

Debbie works as part of our employability projects Chance to Change and the Enhanced Volunteering Initiative. Working closely with volunteer mentors and mentees, she offers support to clients on these projects by helping identify opportunities for employment, training, education and volunteering.

Ian McLaughlan

Mentoring Project Officer

Part of our Employability Team, Ian works closely with our Mentoring Officer, volunteer mentors and mentees. He offers support to young people and helps identify opportunities for employment, training, education and volunteering which will help them grow and improve their lives. Ian previously worked with offenders, helping them to reintegrate into their communities, before joining VASLan in November 2012. Prior to this he worked as a Bank Manager in the west of Scotland.

Jen Fleming

Social Enterprise Development Officer

Jen’s role involves supporting those organisations who either are social enterprises or who wish to develop a social enterprise element to their work in order to become more sustainable through income generation. Coming from a background in community regeneration and social enterprise, Jen joined VASLan at the beginning of 2014 having previously worked in social enterprise project evaluation and research.

Letitia Gallacher

PA / Finance Administrator

As PA to Gordon Bennie, CEO, Letitia deals with his day to day administrative and clerical tasks. She also carries out PA duties for the Management Team and is responsible for HR administration.  Letitia will also be working alongside Audrey Canning helping with the SAGE Accounting System and all financial records and payments within VASLan. She has over 30 years’ administration experience and has worked for HSBC, Blantyre Miners Welfare Charitable Society and Blantyre Volunteer Limited.

Peter McGhee

Peter’s role involves supporting third sector organisations and community groups throughout South Lanarkshire on their funding journey - especially groups looking for more than £10,000. Peter comes from a community learning and development and third sector background, and joined VASLan in June 2015 having previously worked in interfaces in East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde.

Sandra Renicks

Sandra is the Development Officer for the Integrated Care Fund.  She works with organisations in receipt of grant funding from the Fund to ensure that they can provide a meaningful role within Integration of Health and Social Care in South Lanarkshire and monitors their progress against the 9 health and well-being outcomes.  In addition, Sandra plays an active role in the House of Care steering group, NHS Engagement group and the South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Forum.  She has nearly 20 years' experience as a community development worker and has previously held roles in the fields of urban regeneration and environmental sustainability as well as managing grant funding and investment programmes.

Sharon Lawson

Sharon’s role includes overseeing the hiring out of rooms in our Hamilton offices to help sustain the organisation, making sure our clients’ needs are catered for, keeping track of membership payments, and carrying out administrative functions and reception duties.  She volunteered with various organisations before securing her post 5 years ago.

Stuart Reilly

Stuart’s role involves working with third sector organisations and community groups throughout South Lanarkshire and assisting volunteers into voluntary positions. He has been a VASLan employee since early 2011 having previously worked on the Infobase South Lanarkshire project.

Teeda Boyd

Teeda's role involves the development, co-ordination and facilitation of VASLan's training provision. Qualified in Community Learning & Development, she brings over twenty years' experience of community work from various roles within the public and voluntary sectors.

Tina Cameron

Tina's role is a Development Officer with Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire with a focus on volunteering development.  She provides information, advice , support and training  to third sector organisations on volunteering development.  This includes capacity building of organisations to ensure best practise and promoting the development of volunteering to enrich the quality of the experience overall. She also supports organisations to achieve Volunteer Friendly quality standard and works with secondary schools and organisations to deliver Saltire Awards  and the development of Volunteering Awards. Tina has worked in public, private and voluntary sectors and joined VASLan in mid-November. She previously worked as a youth development officer with Volunteer Centre Borders and has nearly 10 years’ experience within the third sector.

Winnie Brown

Mentoring Project Officer

As part of our Employability Team, Winnie works with volunteer mentors to support young people who have experienced barriers to finding employment. She has worked in this role since 2004, previously working for 28 years as a training assessor with South Lanarkshire Council putting young people through catering and hospitality SVQ’s.
